The Western Property Owners Association (WPOA) hosted its annual West End
Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 12 th , in the park located just south of the
New Hyde Park Business District at the corner of New Hyde Park Road and Plattsdale
Road.
The evening began with a warm welcome by WPOA President and Event Chair
RoseAnn Vernice followed by performances from Broadway Bound under the direction
of owner Debbie Tavernese, the Waldorf School of Garden City High School Chorus
under the direction of Choral Director Andrew Fallu and holiday music by “Dasher”. Hot
chocolate courtesy of the Stewart Manor Country Club helped keep everyone warm
during this crisp winter night.
The highlight of the evening was when President Vernice along with her son emcee
Nick Vernice, took to the stage and led the countdown to the lighting of the tree.
Immediately following the tree lighting, the sound of sirens announced the arrival of
Santa on his decorated sleigh atop his firetruck with treats for all the children. The joy
on the faces of the children when they saw Santa was truly priceless and contagious! A
great night was had by all and was a wonderful start to the holiday season.
The WPOA extends its sincere thanks to the Village of Garden City Board of Trustees,
Parks, Police and Fire Departments for their contributions to help make our event a
success. Appreciation is also extended to the Town of Hempstead for providing the
Showmobile and to the businesses who donated to the event: All Island Dermatology,
Enzo’s Pizzeria, Repeal and Ruse. A special thank you to Chamber of Commerce
President, John Wilton, for his continued presence and support.

Vernice.
