Elijah Scalere and Grace Power are this year's recipients of the GCWPOA Scholarships.
Eli, a 2025 graduate of Chaminade HS, is the recipient of the GCWPOA Scholarship in Memory of Past Presidents John F. Traxler, Paul J. Muscarella, and Thomas Whalen. This scholarship pays tribute to past leaders and encourages civic engagement among students.
For the past three years, Eli has volunteered with the WPOA, assisting at community events and rebuilding our website to improve our communtiy outreach. He also built and maintained the website for the Huntington Food Bank, and he has volunteered as a faith formation teacher with St. Anne's Church, a production assistant for performances at the Garden City Middle School. Eli has also designed 3-D-printed accessories and modifications for wheelchairs, customizing components for comfort, functionality, and usability. After graduation, Eli will attend Arizona State University.
Grace, a 2025 graduate of Garden City HS, is the recipient of The Western Property Owners Association Scholarship, which recognizes students with strong academic records and community involvement.
Grace is a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, and she has volunteered with organizations including St. Anne's Youth Group, the Garden City Senior Center, the Garden City Public Library Advisory Board, and the Long Island Dementia and Alzheimer's Center Volunteer. After graduation, she will attend Clemson University.
